It’s perfectly normal to have questions when it comes to care. Here are some of the most common ones we are asked. If you can’t find what you’re looking for below, please get in touch. We’re happy to chat through any queries and concerns you may have.

How does live-in care differ from residential care or hourly care?

Live-in care means that a Care Worker lives in your home with you, full time. Because they live with you, a live-in Care Worker can provide one-to-one, truly personalised care in the comfort of your own home. Our live-in Care Workers help to preserve your lifestyle so that you can remain as independent and active as you like. Our Care Workers will help you with things like cooking, cleaning, gardening, shopping and socialising. They’ll help with morning and night-time routines meaning that you can plan out your days exactly how you choose to. A live-in Care Worker can provide companionship and because you may keep the same Care Worker for some time, you build a genuine friendship. Live-in Care Workers are highly trained to support you with more advanced conditions such as dementia, Parkinsons and stroke recovery.

How much does live-in care cost?

Our live-in care is totally personalised to yours or your loved one’s needs. We don’t have a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to care and so costs are dependent on things like the level of support and the number of Care Workers needed. A typical example of a simple companionship package is £695 per week.

Can I get help with paying for care?

It may be possible for a direct payment to be made from the local authority so that you or your loved one could use this money to toward our live-in care costs. Our regional partners are experts in understanding how the direct payment structure works for your particular local authorities and would be more than happy to help.

How quickly can live-in care be arranged?

We know that care can sometimes be required at short notice. No matter when you call us or what your needs may be, we can normally have care in place within three to five days of your in-home care assessment.

How does Promedica24 select your Care Workers?

At Promedica24, quality Care Workers are the core of our business. We have dedicated recruitment offices and our Care Workers are carefully selected, trained, language tested and security screened. We take personal and professional references and look for Care Workers with previous care experience. Most of our Care Workers are more mature and have chosen care as a vocation. They love what they do and we are proud to have them as members of our high quality team.

How do I choose my care worker?

During an initial assessment of your care needs, our regional partners take the time to find out about you, your likes, dislikes, personality, hobbies and interests. We then look to our team of highly skilled Care Workers and select a Care Worker to present to you. Your regional partner will visit with a personal profile and you can either choose this Care Worker or request another is selected and presented to you.

What happens if the chemistry isn’t right with my care worker?

We take time and great care to match our clients to our Care Workers based on personality, hobbies, interests and lifestyle. Our aim is to bring you a companion you can genuinely enjoy being with. In the unlikely event that you just don’t gel with your care worker, we will arrange for a new selection of Care Workers to be presented to you so that you can choose a new companion. A transfer of a Care Worker will be arranged quickly and at no cost; no questions asked. Your happiness and wellbeing is our priority.

How frequently is my care reviewed?

We regularly review your personalised care plan and our Care Workers are in constant contact with our care managers. This open channel of communication ensures that if your needs change and your person-centred care plan needs reviewing more frequently, we can arrange to do so promptly.

How long would I/we have the same Care Worker for?

Your chosen Care Worker usually stays with you on average of six weeks. Then a second care worker, who you will have been introduced to in advance, will stay with you to ensure a seamless continuation of care. Your original Care Worker may then return to you for another cycle. Our process for Care Worker changeovers is designed to be smooth and undisruptive. Both your new and old Care Workers will be in the home with you for 12-24 hours before your old Care Worker leaves for their break, so that routines and preferences can be handed-over. Put simply, you won’t notice a difference in the level and quality of service or routine you’re accustomed to. This same process is applied when your original Care Worker may come back to you.

Do you offer short-term care?

Yes! Sometimes you may only need care for a short period of time. Our short-term services range from two to six weeks. We support you with things like getting back home after a hospital stay, respite cover for family members or Care Workers who need a break or even provide comfort and support at the most difficult of times with compassionate end-of-life care.

What happens if my needs change?

We regularly review your personal care plan so if your needs change, we will adapt and update your care plan to suit. If your care needs increase, we can increase the levels of your support and even bring in additional care workers. Your regional partner can explain any implications that this would have in terms of an increase in cost. Nothing will ever change without your express permission and all changes will be agreed in writing for your complete peace of mind.

How do I/we pay the care worker?

You don’t have to pay the care worker, you simply pay Promedica24 directly and we arrange for payments to be made to all of our care workers. You can choose to pay us either monthly or fortnightly, whichever is most convenient for you. We accept payments by cheque or Standing Order.

What do I do if I have any concerns at any time?
